An Unbiased Abortion Film?!?

I was happy to see that this director at least took an honest look at the horror of Abortion in its element. But I am still frustrated to find that the argument is being framed in a way that makes abortion "the" alternative choice to having a baby. Now I am a Christian, but I will not preach abstinence for all here, nor will I try to tell you what Jesus would do (even though that is clear). What I need to get across here is this. The director quotes Noam Chomsky as saying :

"There are conflicting values and taken in isolation each of these values is quite legitimate," he adds. "Choice is legitimate, preserving life is legitimate."

The plain fact is, he is correct, but the choice is not whether to abort or keep a child. The "choice" is whether to put you and your partner at risk of becoming pregnant in the first place. Excluding rape alone, this speaks loudly of our culture's inability to marry gratification with personal responsibility. For this very reason millions of Americans suffer from huge amounts of credit card debt. It is in fact too late to "choose" once you have put yourself in a position where paying your massive debt or declaring bankruptcy are the only options. No, if you are not prepared to take responsibility for the result of your actions then you have no business walking into the store to begin with. Therefore if what we are saying (and I think all would agree) is that preserving life is important as Chomsky states, or to go a bit farther as I and many others believe, to say that human life is sacred once it begins, then the debate is essentially over. Any 4th grader can tell you what usually happens when mommy and daddy do their thing... They get pregers and little johnny gets a baby sister. Really, babys don't get delivered by storks as an answer to mom's prayer (anymore). The point is that God (or nature if you prefer) created sexual relations with the purpose of procreation in mind. Why do you think it's so much fun! I can tell you that the human race would be doomed if sex were like say, plucking nose hairs, or bikini waxing or some such thing. As a society we have so totally lost our way when we can go straight to abortion as the other option while skipping over completely the fact that we should have just kept our trousers on in the first place. I am not a prude, just practical. I am totally fine with pre-emptive birth control in theory, but none of it is fool proof. So the bottom line is... If you are not prepared to face the fact that you may become pregnant, carry and deliver a baby your "choice" is simple. Do not have sex! This is not a debate about abortions or no abortions, it is a debate about responsibility or blatant irresponsibility.

Review: Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix

I went and watched on the opening night, because, yes, I am a Potter addict. But before you ask, NO I do not find a conflict between my Christian faith and my love of the Potter series. But that is neither here nor there for the purposes of this post. I am here today to write a review. Honestly I was impressed for the most part with this adaptation and applaud the endeavor in the first place. However, from this movie comes the problem with using a different director for each new film. You never know what you are going to get. This time unfortunately we got less than we bargained for in a variety of areas.

#1 Realizing it would have had to be a 4 hour movie to include everything, this director excluded far too many important parts that were in the book. If you had not read any of the books and were following the movies by them selves this movie would have done nothing but confuse you.

#2 THEY CHANGED THE BLOODY STORY! Honestly guys , leave what you have to on the cutting floor, but you CAN'T change the actual story. To name just a few things, they were not at all true to the book regarding Harry's failed relationship with Cho, nor with the cause of the DA's eventual discovery. The plot point with the Centaurs was not at all there or aloud to develop nor was the reason for Harry's initial coldness toward Ron and Hermione which would have I am sure seemed extremely odd on screen to someone who had not read the book prior. Most noticeable though was the complete transformation of the end scenes from the book in the Ministry/Dept. Of Mysteries. They absolutely ripped it apart and ruined what was one of the most entertaining and gripping pieces of literature yet written by Rowling. From their entrance to the death of Sirius, to the battle climax between Voldemort and Dumbledore, in a series of scene that seemed to last around 10 minutes there were maybe 60 seconds of actual book in there. Very, very, disappointing. Don't let them push you around next time J.K., it was right the way it was written.

As for character casting I wanted to mention that I appreciated very much the way Dolores Umbridge was portrayed by Imelda Staunton. Though she should have been a tad more toady looking in the end she did a wonderful job. Also big nods to Evanna Lynch as Lunna Lovegood who though introduced entirely improperly and who's character was not given any chance to properly develop as in the book, did a superb job. Though I do seem to remember Luna wearing some sort of x-ray specs or something throughout much of the story. Nods also to Natalia Tena as Tonks and Helena Carter as Bellatrix. Nice work on Grawp and the Thestrals, Grawp looked like Alfred E. Neuman which was kind of distracting, but the effect was still good. Not so much on the Centaurs and the Sirius face in the fire effect. Both have been done much better in prior movies and should have stayed that way. Also, my misgivings about story changing aside it was very cool to see the grown up wizards fight one another. That was the bread and butter of the whole final sequence and it just ended way to fast.

All in all as I originally said, an entertaining film, but this director/screenwriter, etc... let the story down to a certain extent and did not do it complete justice by any means.

I sometimes listen to Coast To Coast AM on my way home from Orange County cuz aside from that fruity pseudo-christian english guy on AM 870 its about the only thing worth listening to between the hours of 10:00pm - 12:00am. George Nory had a guest on Monday named Saint John Hunt, son of the late Super Spy, E Howard Hunt of Watergate fame. Anyway, he has a cassette tape in his possession on which his father confesses to many things, not the least of which was having first hand knowledge of the plot to assasinate President J.F. Kennedy. Now I am no conspiracy theorist myself, but as hard as I try I can't seem to find any info that gives me reason to believe this man was not telling the truth. Follow the below link to his site and take the time to read and maybe download the audio tape his father left him. All that black bag stuff still fascinates me somewhat. Enjoy!!

Let the Parade Begin!

Well here we are again folks, another MLS season and right on cue, here come the usual parade of aging South American players, it just wouldn't be American Soccer without them! From the not so glory days of Valdarama, to Campos, to Hernandez and the list continues with 4, count em' 4 new washed up south americans for the same price we used to get 6-7.

Let's start with Blanco: 34 yrs old. A fine player in his day, but considering his disdain for Americans what else could this be but an easy payday.

Then there is Marinelli: Only 25, but with a start at 17 an old soul in football years. Also quite good when he was younger, but he has not even had a game since the early part of 2006.

Next there is Boca's Schelotto: 34 in may. An icon in Argentine football to be sure, but far beyond his prime.

And last but certainly not least the Brazilian 36-year-old Edmundo: Nicknamed "The Animal," he was Ronaldo's backup when Brazil was runner-up in the 1998 World Cup in France. In 1995, he was accused of homicide in a car accident that killed three people. He was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison but was released on appeal. Just over a year ago, he was arrested by police on charges of dangerous driving and contempt of authority.

On a personal note, I am all for the designated player rule and was very excited at the players beckham might draw to MLS after he signed with the Galaxy. But that just did not happen. One by one every deal just seemed to fall through. From Davids, to Keene, to Joey Barton, to Figo, they all balked at MLS' offer to come and be a part of the Beckham era. Why? Frankly I think America was just too far to travel to play in a mediocre soccer league and get paid the same as they could have or more on their own continent. Oh well! Maybe next Year!

So Far...Not So Good

Well, let me be the next to join the throng of conservative bloggers who DON'T think the new 1/2 hour news hour promo clip is the least bit funny. I won't go so far as wuzzadem and say the entire thing is going to suck before actually watching it on Sunday. But, that clip sure does suck out loud. It is so bad there was likely a disturbance in the force... You know, the sound of thousands of conservatives crying at the prospect of giving anymore ammunition to the nutroots. If the rest of the show is as bad it will end up being a piece of Colbert skit next week, only that will actually be funny. How's that for a Brain Bender. A liberal mocking a serious conservative news program, pretending to report on how funny a non-funny, non-entertaining conservative comedy is, as a part of a skit. AAAooowwwww, my brain hurts!

Without exception, the best humorists in the conservative Blogosphere say this show reeks. That's not coincidence. That's not jealousy. All of us wanted this to succeed, and we are only too happy to praise Greg Gutfeld. We criticize the show because it sucks and represents a huge missed opportunity, and because it makes us look bad because we're conservative.

He says earlier in his post that we (conservatives) need to not be as good or sorta' good to compete with Stewart and Colbert. Why? Because as he rightly points out the odds are stacked against us to begin with. I suggest reading the whole thing from the above link bearing his name.

24 Is A Shell Of Its Former Self

Blogs -4- Bauer touches on it with a fairly good Dennis Miller Parody . But its really more than that. Fox has gone completely off the deep end into the realm of Fairies and Fantasy land... and no I don't mean the 10:00 o'clock news. Last season they at least tried to mask their whimpification of Bauer and friends by keeping a little truth in reality on board for the ride. This season is among other things an Islamo-Love fest rivaled only by the quarterly CAIR, "I'm Good Enough, Radical Enough, & Praise Be To Allah, My 13th Wife Likes Me" conference. 99.5% of the characters this season have a more than obvious liberal bent to them and what is worse yet, they are being portrayed as mainstream while the only two on the show with any conservative tendencies at all, Peter Mac Nichol and Powers Booth, are portrayed as extremest ideologues who are bent on imprisoning Americans and denying people their rights. So this adds yet another element, which is basically that they have, by searching the archives of letterman's Top 10 list for the last 6 years and digging deep into the Sheehan articles on the Huffington Post, come up with what a conservative really is and used that as a template for these characters. Not only is it offensive, its just flat out lame. From a guy who has watched every single season of 24, I am half tempted to just forget the rest of the of it and be content to wait until Tuesday where there is (for the time being anyway) still a half way decent Pro-American show on (NCIS) to get my fix. Honestly, if I were not to have had the history already with this show and had just turned it on for the first time last night not only would I have never watched again, I would have put it in the same category with Boston Public, Law & Order(s), Crossing Jordan, etc... and bagged on anyone who said they watched it.

It was nice while it lasted, but I have to say goodbye to 24 I'm afraid, and say, in the immortal words of some eeeviiilll vilan out there that Jack may have eaten for lunch 3 seasons ago, but now would not have the will to hurt because of all the emotional damage done to him by our oppressive government's abuse of human rights and lack of a good dental plan... "I Must Kill You Now"

I almost forgot to mention the plot. Yes folks it now seems that America and its Imperialist corporations are responsible for terrorism. It was the greed and short-sightedness of evil American white men that allowed Imhotep to get his hands on the suitcase nukes to begin with. Oh, and be sure not to miss the fact that they make the go between, who is not responsible but complicit, a Brit either. I am going to go out on a limb here and say that this entire season is a an attempt at a bad metaphor for The Us and Britan's Iraq and terrorism policies respectively. When you really think about it the writers must think the majority of us are brain dead to have written such a massive piece of dung. I am insulted

24 Season Premier PC on steroids

Well folks if you thought the past islamist placating done on 24 was bad, you ain't seen nothin' yet. They have even wussified Jack this year. I am a little confused though, as one of the plot points involves a muslim family with some hippie, liberal neighbors that get all outraged when the muslim father is taken in for questioning. the tone is very anti-conservative until you find out shortly after that we ( the US government) actually had good reason to grab this man, and that he and his family are terrorists. Then there is the wussifying of Jack in a scene where Jack begins torturing a terroist for information and stops cold in the middle of it saying, "he is not going to tell us anything, I can see it in his eyes". Jack's companion then proceeds to further torutre the man by shanking him under the knee cap and gets the information they are looking for. So it seems to start out being anti-torture and ends up showing that torture really works??!!??**? There is also as Debbie Schlussel rightly points out a villan who, yep, you guessed it, turns out to be the only conservative in the current president's administration played by Peter Mc Nichol (of Ally Mac Beal and Numbers fame) who the writers have painted with what I now believe is the embodiment of the way most liberals view conservatives. He is stubborn, closed minded, cynical and evil. Another slightly confusing plot point... the charachter...his name is Tom, wants to heavily profile middle eastern muslim men and that is painted as wrong and a bad idea and against America's interest, but then they turn around and show us that every single one of the terrorists involved in the plot thus far are middle eastern muslim men???!!??? So far its a bit Bi-Polar for my taste and certainly leaning way left, but I am a loyal fan and will watch at least until I reach the point of nausea.
