Eros or Agape?

I saw this article on a paper that the Pope recently wrote and I thought it worthy of a look. Particularly the first half of the article. Take a peek and then come back for my comments below.

Eros or Agape?

I would even expound on his point by sighting this issue as another argument for abstinense prior to a deeply commited life relationship or marriage. Eros or sexual love whether we like it or not injects emotions into a relationship. The key to success or destuction lies in the timing. If those emotions are brought to bare to soon, the relationship becomes about little else and there is no room to know and experience one another seperate from the physical attractions and bonds that sex inevitably creates. When God said "and the two will become one flesh" I believe this is what he was talking about. Granted it is a great leap of faith to trust God in that regard and hope that when you do finally make love, the two of you are compatible in that way. But that is what our relationship with God should be based in... Deep Faith. Something to strive for and aspire to in a world where the immediate is held above that which is deep and lasting
